For decades, Meyer, Otto Link, and J&D Hite defined the sound of saxophone and clarinet. In that time, countless mouthpiece makers have borrowed, copied, and built reputations on echoes of those original designs.

Players followed, not because they wanted something different, but because they were chasing consistency and character these iconic brands had lost. The Meyer and Otto Linklottery”, trying ten to find one, had become the norm.

That era is ending.

A new era is beginning.

Through a landmark partnership with Theo Wanne Mouthpieces, we are bringing the original Meyer, Otto Link, and J&D Hite designs into a new era of precision, repeatability, innovation, and trust without sacrificing the coveted sound that made them iconic in the first place.

Musicians no longer have to look elsewhere for the Meyer or Otto Link sound.

Players can finally come home.

Who We Are

JJ Babbitt Company exists to serve the musician’s voice through the mouthpieces that help define it.

For more than a century, we have been the stewards of some of the most influential mouthpiece designs in music history. Otto Link, Meyer, and J&D Hite are not simply product lines. They are reference points. These are the mouthpieces the saxophone world was built on, shaping players, genres, and generations.

Founded in 1919 in Elkhart, Indiana, JJ Babbitt grew alongside the musicians who defined modern saxophone playing. From jazz clubs and concert halls to classrooms and practice rooms around the world, our mouthpieces earned their place through sound, feel, and trust.

Protecting designs of this significance requires more than preserving the past. It requires evolving how those designs are made.

That is why JJ Babbitt has entered into a full partnership with Theo Wanne Mouthpieces, the world leader in playing innovation, mouthpiece design, manufacturing technology, and process control. Through this partnership, the original designs, molds, and intent behind Otto Link, Meyer, and J&D Hite are retained, while new levels of consistency, precision, and repeatability are elevated through modern manufacturing methods.

Craftsmanship remains central to who we are. But craftsmanship today means more than handwork alone. It means applying the right combination of skilled hands, advanced machining, and refined process control so that each mouthpiece performs the way it was always meant to perform, reliably and consistently.

As we enter a new era, JJ Babbitt and Theo Wanne are carrying these legendary names forward with clarity, discipline, and a commitment to making mouthpieces worthy of the sounds they are meant to create.

How We Do What We Do

Iconic designs deserve more than nostalgia. They deserve to be made with care, discipline, and control equal to their legacy.

At JJ Babbitt, our newly redeveloped process is built on a simple belief: the character that made Otto Link, Meyer, and Hite legendary must be protected, while the way those designs are produced must evolve. That belief is guiding us into a new era of craftsmanship.

Through partnership with Theo Wanne Mouthpieces, we are combining our original designs and material expertise with world-leading manufacturing technology, refined process control, and deeper human expertise. Advanced machining, tighter tolerances, and cutting-edge technology allow each mouthpiece to accomplish what no Meyer, Otto Link, or Hite piece has ever done before: Iconic Perfection, every time.

Just as important, this partnership has elevated the people behind the work. Drawing on decades of refacing experience, Theo has provided new levels of training and process insight to our craftspeople, sharpening their understanding of how small details affect response, feel, and sound. The result is not less craftsmanship, but more informed craftsmanship.

Skilled hands still matter. Listening still matters. Finishing still matters. What’s changed is the foundation beneath it all. Each mouthpiece now moves through a process designed to support consistency without stripping character.

The result is a process that honors the past, performs in the present, and gives players greater confidence every time they pick up their horn.

What It Means

This is not technology for the sake of automation. It is a new era of craftsmanship built on intention, discipline, and respect for sound.

At JJ Babbitt, iconic designs are still rooted in the materials, feel, and tonal character that made Otto Link, Meyer, and Hite legendary. What’s changed is the precision with which those designs are now carried forward. Through our partnership with Theo Wanne, modern manufacturing technology and deeper craft training are being applied with purpose, not excess.

The result is a process that balances tradition and innovation. One that preserves the unmistakable core of these mouthpieces while delivering a level of consistency and reliability that today’s players expect. This is not about replacing human judgment. It’s about supporting it with better tools, better training, and better standards.

We believe legendary sound deserves nothing less.
